  • InterPsych: The Internet Mental Health Organization.   • Israel Institute for Treatment and Study of Stress Maytal is a private out-patient mental health institute in Haifa which provides services in counseling and mental health. Activities include not only treatment, but also training and supervision of psychologists, as well as research in the fields of psychotherapy and trauma. I particularly like their links page.
  • Mobbing: Emotional Abuse in The American Workplace. A new book about "Mobbing ... bullying at the workplace ... a "ganging up" by co-workers, subordinates or superiors, to force someone out of the workplace through rumor, innuendo, intimidation, discrediting, isolation, and particularly, humiliation... a serious form of ... harassment... affects the mental and physical health of victims." The author's intend "to stimulate public awareness ... to help detect mobbing in workplaces, to warn those who intentionally perpetrate mobbing actions, and to encourage preventive, timely and appropriate action to deal with this phenomenon."
  • The U.S. National Center for PTSD on the World Wide Web, includes access to the PILOTS Database (THE database on PTSD), a substantial portion of the PILOTS Database User's Guide, and staff directories for several National Center divisions . If you seek references on any aspect of PTSD, then if one exists, you will likely find it on the Pilots database. You can download references or abstracts to your own computer. A tremendous resource.

  • Sidran Foundation and Press

    Created and maintained by Beth Hadnell Stamm, a leader in the study of Secondary trumatic Stress and measurement of traumatic stress, this page on Rural Care contains references, archived papers, and measures of traumatic stress and secondary traumatic stress (Compassion fatigue), material and links related to Rural Health Care, the Project For Community Revitalization & Healing Of Cultural Trauma In Indigenous Peoples.
    An excellent site for knowledge of therapist self-care. You can download and use the articles, reference lists, and psychometric measures as long as you give credit to the authors. You will find an excellent selection of links.
  • Traumatic Stress Forum An e-mail discussion list, "The Traumatology Forum has been in operation since March of 1994. Most of our members study or treat those who have or are still experiencing the effects of enduring a traumatic event. Such events include but is not limited to disasters, accidents, death of a loved one, criminal violence, family abuse, war (either as a combatant or as a civilian), or a survivor of other types of horrible circumstances. We are affiliated with the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and the Journal of Traumatic Stress, among others. Our most immediate concern is seeking the most powerful, painless, and efficient method for eliminating or at least containing the unwanted consequences of traumatic events."

  • Disaster Mental Health Institute DMHI, at the University of South Dakota: It’s mission is the promotion, development, and application of both practice and research in disaster mental health. Its objectives: (1) Provide training in disaster mental health professionals; (2) Provide consultation to private corporations, states, and municipalities in the development of disaster mental health prevention programs and intervention plans; (3)Provide emergency disaster mental health teams to conduct interventions for corporations, states, and municipalities; (4) Support and coordinate research in disaster mental health; (5) Support and coordinate the South Dakota Disaster Response Network; (6) Manage the DMHI national internet bulletin board for disaster mental health.
    Science combined with practice available to those planning and managing intervention.

  • Disaster Resources Web Site provides access to information on disaster preparedness and recovery for the State of Illinois and the Internet community. Information for educators, professionals, and the general public is available for viewing and downloading, along with links to information from a variety of state and federal agencies, educational institutions, relief organizations, and information networks.

  • APA Disaster Response Network A pro-bono service of the American Psychological Association and its members with the American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), state emergency management teams and other relief groups. Member volunteers have worked on every major disaster the USA has experienced and many smaller disasters. Long-term goals are to continue providing necessary short-term crisis services following disasters, to eventually train the entire network in a national, crisis intervention course and to expand the network

  • Emergency Preparedness Canada (EPC) is a federal government organization within the Department of National Defence responsible for the development and maintenance of an appropriate level of civil emergency preparedness across Canada.   • incident.com: Current Events Disaster management Internet pioneer Art Botterell recently established this Web site, which includes a world map of recent (the last few days) earthquakes and tropical storms - click on the event location and receive information about it. The site also includes a few of Art's insightful and provocative papers and musings on the Internet and disasters.

  • International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters the official journal of the International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Disasters and has long been one of the more respected and useful academic journals dealing with disaster management. The journal Web site offers information about the journal, article submission, contents of recent issues, upcoming articles, book reviews, special issues, and subscribing to the journal.

  • NASA Goddard Space Flight Center - the "Disaster Finder," ... "a complete index to the best disaster Web sites on the Internet." It covers over 400 disaster information sites, and, using a keyword/concept search facility or category/type menu buttons, users can quickly identify specific sites providing the information they need. The sites found by using the search engine are prioritized according to their probable suitability, and the Disaster Finder even provides short previews of the selections so that individuals can see what kind of information is available.

  • Natural Hazards Center : access to disaster information compiled by this US Federal agency. Lists of Hazards Center publications, full texts of working papers, and Hazards Research & Applications Workshop summaries, topical bibliographies, and the electronic journal, Disaster Research.

  • NB Emergency Measures The EMO primarily serving New Brunswick, but makes available useful information on community disaster planning; Click on Education and Training and you get the Emergency Services Atlantic page which informs about EMO training in all of the Atlantic Provinces; Innovative distance learning emergency preparedness courses can be ordered, and there is an on-line simulated exercise under construction; yet another page offers an abbreviated list of Atlantic Provinces disasters.

  •  Project Safeside The American Red Cross and The Weather Channel have launched a joint project in an effort to teach the public about the dangers of severe weather, how to prepare for it, and what to do when it occurs. Using brochures, broadcasts, lectures, and the Internet, the project will address floods, hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, and extreme heat.
  •  Red Cross The web site of the American Red Cross Disaster services. In addition to descriptions of their services and role, a number of information booklets are available for downloading.     The text is concise and clearly written, contains directions on what to do unadorned with theoretical or empirical discussion. The effects of various trauma events on individuals and communities is known to be more extensive than he describes, however.
    The site also has text material describing defusing and debriefing procedures, material on how to get involved with American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health organization and training, and links to other disaster sites.

    "The National Center for Mental Health Services developed KEN for users of mental health services and their families, the general public, policy makers, providers, and the media. You can access a publications list or order articles, booklets, fact sheets, and videos on subjects such as children, adolescents, and their families; community resources; and issues that affect consumers of mental health services." ...     The focus is on continuing medical education in mental health. One can ask experts, participate in chat rooms, access articles and a variety of CE resources, as well as get information on the various psychiatric disorders.   • Mental Health Net A good source of information on how to contact self-help and support groups. Also has other mental health information.
  • National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. (NAMI) - a grass roots, self-help, support and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with severe mental illness and their loved ones. NAMI strives to reduce stigma and ignorance of severe mental illness to help eliminate discrimination and restrictions on access to essential treatments and life supports such as employment, housing, health insurance, and social contact.
    Membership page. Conferences/Events page. The Helpline Online is an information and referral service A volunteer at that number can talk with you about mental illnesses and the medications that treat them. and information on brain disorders.
  • NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, Information Service and Databases The CRD (originates in the UK at the University of York) provides an information and enquiry service to help answer specific questions on reviews of effectiveness and cost effectiveness of health care interventions and the delivery and organisation of health care. This service is available to answer enquiries about reviews and economic evaluation. CRD produces two publicly available databases which can be freely searched from the screens: the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness and the NHS Economic Evaluation Database.

  • Suicide Information and Education Center
    This very large site boasts online databases and text information, and links to other mental health/suicide prevention websites worldwide. Especially interesting is a graphicly-interactive map of the US and Canada which allows you to access contact information on suicide prevention/awareness clinics across North America - listed by state/province. Though based in Alberta, this organization can arrange training on suicide intervention, prevention and awareness - as well as on bereavement counselling - anywhere in North America. SIEC is funded by the Canandian Mental Health Association.
