Urethane

Dissolve the Urethane in H20. When dissolved, adjust the final volume to 200 ml with distilled H2O. [0.15gm/ml]

Dosage:

Administer 1 ml per 100 gm body weight [1.5gm/Kg] by IP injection.

Supplemental injections:

The initial induction dose is often sufficient for several hours, but when supplemental anaesthesia is indicated, administer ¼ of the initial dose.

Older, fatter rats tend to be more sensitive to urethane. For rats weighing over 450 gm it is prudent to cut back on the initial dose to .75ml per 100 gm body weight.

Urethane is only appropriate for use in procedures where the rat will be sacrificed under anaesthesia.  Urethane is very toxic.  Recovery from anaesthesia  will take days and long term health problems such as tumours are probable.
