Chemical Safety

Before you start mucking about with unfamiliar chemicals, inform your self of possible hazards

Some of the chemicals in the lab are extremely dangerous. Chemicals do not lose their potency when being used by psychologists rather than chemists. It is ultimately your responsibility to insure that you are aware of possible hazards and take appropriate precautions when handling chemicals.Printed copies Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS)are on file in the lab. They are located in the filing cabinet in the hallway outside BT-2008. You can also view data sheets on line by clicking on the MSDS (view & download) link.

Every attempt is made to insure that our MSDS holdings are up to date. To aid in this task, please see that the MSDS sheets which accompany your chemicals are given to Steve Milway as soon as your order is received.

In order to comply with Safety regulations, please inform Steve Milway on arrival of new chemicals. This will insure that the chemical's documentation is on file and that the Department  of Health & Safety is informed.  They keep a registry of chemicals which can be consulted in case of emergency (e.g. to advise fire fighters in case of fire). Also remember to inform Steve Milway when the chemicals have been used or disposed of so that they can be removed from the inventory.
