  • Archives of General Psychiatry
    The Psychiatry journal of the American Medical Association

  • Mental Health Infosource The focus is on continuing medical education in mental health. One can ask experts, participate in chat rooms, access articles and a variety of CE resources, as well as get information on the various psychiatric disorders. A mental health Professional Directory and Classified section are attached. Many links.
  • National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. (NAMI) - a grass roots, self-help, support and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with severe mental illness and their loved ones. NAMI strives to reduce stigma and ignorance of severe mental illness to help eliminate discrimination and restrictions on access to essential treatments and life supports such as employment, housing, health insurance, and social contact.

  • Psychology in Daily Life The Public Affairs Office of the American Psychological Association has prepared several brochures to provide information on mental health and psychological issues that face us all. They're collected into topical groups of work, family and the mind-body connection. You'll also find a list here of state and provincial psychological associations, many of which offer referrals for mental health services, as well as a link to association ethics documents.
  • SSCP - The Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology is a section of Division 12 (Section III) of the American Psychological Association. Its purpose is to affirm and continue to promote the integration of the scientist and the practitioner in training, research, and applied endeavors. Its members represent a diversity of interests and theoretical orientations. The common bond of the membership is a commitment to empirical validation of clinical procedures. The archives of the SSCP newsletter Clinical Science is available on-line.

  • Psychological Treatment Guidelines: - UK NHS consensus on evidence-based practice "This treatment guideline for mental health services is truly amazing in terms of the partnerships involved in developing and supporting the guideline. Backed by the UK Department of Health, representatives from British psychology, psychiatry, counselling, and other mental health organizations worked together to reach evidence-based agreement on services for a range of adult disorders. The full guideline and a brief version are downloadable in pdf format."

  • Canadian Traumatic Stress Network The home page for the new and growing association serving front-line workers, disaster planners, mental health professionals, and all who are interested in understanding and responding to traumatic stress.
  • The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. - has established a standard for its Board Certification of professionals, across disciplines, who regularly work with survivors of traumatic events --. Membership includes professionals from over one hundred specialties in the health-related fields, emergency services, criminal justice, forensics, law and education.
  • David Baldwin's Trauma Info Pages , the most informative site on PTSD and related topics. Includes About Trauma - an overview of the psychology of trauma with links to further information on specific aspects; Trauma Resources - full texts of many important papers and articles on traumatic stress and its treatment, plus links to other sources; Supportive Information - advice and many links to support for victims of various trauma; Disaster Handout & Links.
    A huge resource, a labour of love which we very much appreciate for its invaluable contents and fine organization. If you are ever looking for information on trauma or disaster, this should be your first stop.
  • Disaster Resources Web Site provides access to information on disaster preparedness and recovery for the State of Illinois and the Internet community. Information for educators, professionals, and the general public is available for viewing and downloading, along with links to information from a variety of state and federal agencies, educational institutions, relief organizations, and information networks.
  • APA Disaster Response Network A pro-bono service of the American Psychological Association and its members with the American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), state emergency management teams and other relief groups. Member volunteers have worked on every major disaster the USA has experienced and many smaller disasters. Long-term goals are to continue providing necessary short-term crisis services following disasters, to eventually train the entire network in a national, crisis intervention course and to expand the network
  • EPIX - The Emergency Planning Information Exchange Centre for Policy Research on Science and Technology, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, BC. Disaster planning in Canada and internationally, complete links to local and world resources on disaster planning.
  • Global Health Disaster Network It is a sister page of Global Health Network (University of Pittsburgh) by the Department of Emergency Medicine, Ehime University School of Medicine, Ehime University, Ehime, Japan. Intentions: (1) Establishment of a global disaster directory to include everyone involved in disaster relief worldwide who has an e-mail address. (2) Establishment of disease telemonitoring capabilities. (3) Provision of educational and training programs available through the Internet. (4) To network all Non-Government Organizations and government agencies: The Global Health Unit for Disaster and Relief Coordination. (5) Establishment of a disaster information server. A repository of data and information where organizations and individuals can find disaster information in different languages
  • Grant Devilly's PSYCH TRAUMA PAGES . from the Psychology Department at The University of Queensland. Great presentation of useful trauma links and material developed in Australia.

  • International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters the official journal of the International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Disasters and has long been one of the more respected and useful academic journals dealing with disaster management. The journal Web site offers information about the journal, article submission, contents of recent issues, upcoming articles, book reviews, special issues, and subscribing to the journal.
  • International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) "provides a forum for the sharing of research, clinical strategies, public policy concerns and theoretical formulations on trauma in the United States and around the world. ISTSS is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge and to the stimulation of policy, program and service initiatives that seek to reduce traumatic stressors and their immediate and long-term consequences."

  • NASA Goddard Space Flight Center - the "Disaster Finder," ... "a complete index to the best disaster Web sites on the Internet." It covers over 400 disaster information sites, and, using a keyword/concept search facility or category/type menu buttons, users can quickly identify specific sites providing the information they need. The sites found by using the search engine are prioritized according to their probable suitability, and the Disaster Finder even provides short previews of the selections so that individuals can see what kind of information is available.
  • The U.S. National Center for PTSD on the World Wide Web, includes access to the PILOTS Database (THE database on PTSD), a substantial portion of the PILOTS Database User's Guide, and staff directories for several National Center divisions . If you seek references on any aspect of PTSD, then if one exists, you will likely find it on the Pilots database. You can download references or abstracts to your own computer. A tremendous resource.
  • Natural Hazards Center : access to disaster information compiled by this US Federal agency. Lists of Hazards Center publications, full texts of working papers, and Hazards Research & Applications Workshop summaries, topical bibliographies, and the electronic journal, Disaster Research.
  •   Project Safeside The American Red Cross and The Weather Channel have launched a joint project in an effort to teach the public about the dangers of severe weather, how to prepare for it, and what to do when it occurs. Using brochures, broadcasts, lectures, and the Internet, the project will address floods, hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, and extreme heat.
  • Victim-Assistance Online, an excellent resource developed by Randy McCall, Windsor, Ontario. Great page design, you will find a resource table which provides access to a vast number of pages of information relevant to victims and their assistance, from Lost/Abused Children, to Support Groups, to Care for the Caregiver, and the most complete list Directories of VA Services. You can also find how to subscribe to the VA E-Mail Forum, the internet discussion group for VA workers.
